The Best Games of 2012
It's been another great year for gaming and with a proposed new Xbox on the horizon next year, 2013 could be even better. Here are our best games of 2012.
Halo 4
This one was always going to make the list as one of the stand out games of the last 12 months. Now that is has arrived it has been showered in praise, everything from its fantastic graphics to engaging storytelling has been singled out by fans and critics alike. Everyone wasn't always so confident in this fourth installment though; when Microsoft announced that they were changing developers and going with 343 industries, it was met with some concern. It all turned out fine in the end though and they produced a memorable game that was set five years after the events of Halo 3 and managed to breathe new life into the franchise by setting it up to continue for many years to come.

Far Cry 3
Another franchise that had fresh life breathed into it was Far Cry, this game ditched its traditional military protagonist and instead opted for a teenager. When his holiday in paradise goes badly wrong and the island gets taken over by pirates. Once they've taken over the island the teenager (Jason) has to fight for survival. It's a vast open world game that has excellent character development and manages to convincingly showcase a young man slowly losing his mind. There's plenty to discover right across the island as-well as lots of pirates that have to be taken down so there's hours of fun on offer with Far Cry 3 which makes it one of the best games of 2012.

Borderlands 2
This eagerly awaited game showcased a franchise that is truly on-top of its game. When it first emerged it was only met by a lukewarm reaction from the critics who dismissed it before it even arrived. Once it did however, it received nothing but praise and easily sits alongside other top titles as one of the best games of the past year. It's success is largely down to its addictive gameplay along with fantastic characters and the vast amounts of weapons that are available. For fun alone, Borderlands 2 may well be the best game of the year.
